Jesus Has Power to Change the Situation: Knowing Jesus Amidst Difficult Time

"Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because You say so, I will let down the nets" (Luke 5:5)

Let’s think for a minute, you are amidst a difficult situation. You are expecting a miracle; how would you receive your miracle? We will see this in a moment.

Have you ever gone fishing? How many fish did you catch? If not, let me tell you about fish catching, it is very tricky. The fishermen have to wait for the whole night to catch the fish, and it is because the fish get more active during the night than in the daytime. So, the chances of catching multitudes increase only during the night times because of calm water. Do you know why fishermen mend and clean their nets? They mend and clean their nets properly because nothing would come in torn and dirty nets. It takes a long time also to mend and clean nets.

In this story, we learn about the disciples who caught nothing during their whole night struggle. They could not catch a single fish. They were not happy with their whole night's effort. On that day when they were cleaning their nets. Jesus came there on that lake. Many people were there to hear the word of God. Jesus saw two boats and the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. They were very tired because they struggled so hard to catch fish, but all in vain. Jesus got into Simon’s boat and asked him to push a little from the land. Jesus continued His teaching while sitting in the boat. When Jesus had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Take the boat into deep water. If you put your nets in the water, you will catch some fish.” Simon answered, “Master, we worked hard all night trying to catch fish, but we caught nothing. But you say to put the nets in the water; so I will.” The fisherman did as Jesus told them. It might have taken him many hours to wash nets. Apart from this, it was not good either for the fisherman to catch fish during the daytime. Nevertheless, as Jesus asked him to do Peter did it according to Jesus' instructions.

Although it was a hard job for Peter to put his washed nets back into the water again during the daytime, he was also very tired. However, he decided to do as Jesus asked him to do and this was the reason the moment, he decided to obey Jesus, he caught the multitude it was not less than a miracle, Peter was one of the professionals in fishing, and no one ever wondered that they could catch the multitude and especially in the daytime.

Remember, Jesus' words have the power to change any situation. This verse can change your situation no matter how hard your circumstances are. You can be amidst family crises, job challenges, financial problems, and so on but Jesus is there to change the whole situation. What is Jesus asking you to do?

How can you get your miracle? Obedience is an act of showing reverence to God. It shows that Lord we accept whatever you say to us. Peter received his miracle because he obeyed Jesus in his hardship. What do you do when you face any challenge? Sadly, many people turn away from the Lord. The passage teaches us, showing obedience to the Lord, Peter knew that there was a power in Jesus’ words that could change any situation. The Bible says, “Respect and obey the Lord! This is the beginning of knowledge (Proverbs 1:7)

Let's pray that the Lord in every situation helps us to seek your will so that amidst every situation we can know you more in Jesus' name, we pray, Amen
