Trusting God Over Money

Money versus Faith

Trusting God Over Money

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. Hebrews 13:5

In a world where the attraction of wealth and success often overshadows spiritual values, we must pause and reflect: Are we placing our trust in money or in God? This devotional thought explores this vital question through the lens of Scripture.

God gave us money not so we could become obsessed with it but rather as a way to help and be a blessing to others. Unfortunately, the media often bombards us with messages about getting rich quick schemes, which can make us put money before our faith in God.

Let's consider some important questions to reflect on; Is not God Our Ultimate Provider? If we believe God is our ultimate provider, why do we often rely more on money than on Him?

In the New Testament, we find about Judas Iscariot. Judas loved money so much even he betrayed Jesus for it (Matthew 26:14-16). This shows how putting money before God can lead to harmful actions and choices. We should be careful not to let the love of money overshadow our faith and values, as it can lead us down the wrong path.

In the Bible we can see Jesus warned about the dangers of serving both God and money, emphasizing that we cannot serve two masters (Matthew 6:24). His teachings guide us on trusting solely in God's sovereignty. We should seek God's kingdom above all else.

As followers of Christ, we must evaluate our position. Are we aligning ourselves with Jesus' instructions not to worry and trust in our own resources but to trust in God wholeheartedly.

The book of Hebrews 13:5 tells us not to love money but to find our gladness in God's Love. In a world that's crazy about getting rich, we should help ourselves and our kids to think like Jesus. It's about making our hearts and thoughts align with Him. When we make peace with God, it helps us find peace in the midst of our worries. Rather than depending solely on money, we can rely on the all-powerful God, who's in charge of everything. He is our good shepherd who takes care of all of our needs (Psalm 23:1). Also, Jesus said, to prioritize Him and find Your righteousness above all so that all these things will be added to us (Matthew 6:33).

Let’s pray. Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You, recognizing that You are our unfailing provider. Forgive us for the times when we have placed money above You. Help us embody to be like your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. As we navigate a world consumed by materialism, grant us the wisdom to teach our children the values of aligning their hearts and minds with Jesus. May we find peace in Your presence and cast all our anxieties upon You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
