Worship, Mission, Connection: Divine Truth

God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. John 4:24

This verse tells us to worship God with our true selves, from the inside (with our spirits), and with honesty (in truth). It's like an invitation to get closer to God, not just by doing rituals or showing off our faith. When we worship this way, we build a deep and real connection with our spiritual and always-present God. Worship and prayer are super important for us to understand who Jesus is, what He came to do, and what we should do. They help us get closer to God and find our purpose in life.

Let’s consider some questions and explore answers from the Bible:

Who is Jesus to us?

In Matthew 16:16, Peter declared, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." Peter's words reveal that Jesus is far more than a figure from history. He is our Savior, sent by God through the power of Holy Spirit, and the very bedrock of our faith. Jesus is not just a person from the past; He is the divine Son of God, our Redeemer, and the cornerstone of our faith journey. His significance is beyond measure, and our faith in Him is deeply profound.

What was Jesus' Mission?

Luke 19:10 tells us, "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost." Jesus's mission on Earth was a divine quest to offer salvation and bridge the gap between humanity and God. His mission was an extraordinary to rescue those who were lost, bringing them into the loving embrace of God. Jesus's mission was a divine masterpiece of redemption, and His impact on the world is immeasurable, 1 Corinthians 15:4 reveals that Jesus' mission was unfinished until His resurrection from the dead, showing His triumph over sin and death.

What is our role?

Referring to 1 Peter 2:9, we are described as "a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light." Our role is clear: we are to spread the message of salvation and serve as beacons of light, living out our faith and reflecting God's love in the world. Our role and mission are vital in the Christian journey, reminding us to share Jesus' love with others near and far. We must always worship Jesus and not let our mission replace that, or else our mission loses its meaning and our souls are affected.

The story of Jesus carrying the cross (Matthew 27:32-56) powerfully illustrates His mission to carry the weight of our sins and suffer on our behalf. It's also crucial to remember how Jesus, on the night before His crucifixion, fervently prayed to God while His disciples were sleeping. This emphasizes the profound connection between worship and prayer. During His earthly ministry, Jesus often taught the importance of prayer and worship. It is through prayer that we align our hearts with God's will and seek His guidance and strength. Just as Jesus demonstrated the significance of prayer in His life, we are encouraged to follow His example. This story reminds us that, like Jesus, we should turn to God in prayer, especially in our most challenging moments. Through prayer and worship, we can find the spiritual strength and resolve to carry our burdens, just as Jesus carried the cross for our salvation.

Living like Jesus and sharing His message can be challenging but worthwhile. Sometimes, we may start focusing too much on ourselves rather than on Jesus in our mission. We may get too caught up in our plans and strategies, forgetting the beautiful story of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. We must remember that the most crucial part of our mission is not about us but about Jesus. We are His messengers, we are therefore Christ’s ambassadors as written in 2 Corinthians 5:20, telling others about Him. His mission is unique and special, and our role is to reflect His love and teachings. Before we talk too much about our mission, we must remember to worship Jesus and keep Him at the center of our lives. Our main goal is not just to do things for Jesus but to worship Him. So, let's focus on worshipping Jesus, and let our mission flow from that worship. This way, our actions will truly reflect His love and message. Remember, it's not just about what we do for Jesus, but about what He has done for us.

The Bible emphasizes that Jesus serves as our ultimate example of love, humility, and sacrifice. He showed us the way to live a life pleasing to God. Our role, as His followers, is to walk in His footsteps, imitating His love and humility, and to share His message of hope, redemption, and salvation with the world. In doing so, we continue the work He began during His time on Earth, carrying His mission forward by being vessels of His love and messengers of His grace.

Our calling is to shine brightly like a beacon of light and preserve the goodness of the earth like salt. This mission is of divine nature, and it's essential for us to depend on the Holy Spirit for guidance and strength. It's crucial for us to ponder our role and make sure we are actively embodying Jesus' mission in our daily lives. Before talking too much about our Christian mission, let's focus on worshiping Jesus. Our mission, with the help of the Holy Spirit, is to share and live out this message, gathering fellow worshipers. Prayer and worship are the foundations that keep us in sync with God's divine plan and purpose.

We must impart to our children the significance of following Jesus' example and guide them toward the path of worship and prayer. In this way, we pass down the heritage of faith. This is the perfect time to prioritize the worship of Jesus above all else. Let Jesus take the central place in our lives, and let our worship of Him be the guiding light in our mission.

Let’s pray. Dear Lord, help us to understand Jesus, His mission, and our role. Guide us in worship and prayer, and empower us through the Holy Spirit to fulfill our divine mission. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
